People boycott former finance minister

Thimphu, September 13: The people from his own village in Trashigang boycott the familiarization tour of former Finance Minister Wangdi Norbu on September 09.

According to lately received reports, the people of Yangneer village remained shut inside their homes after Norbu said he would like to talk with a gathering there regarding the changing politics of the country.

Failing to see single face during the whole-day tour, Norbu returned to his residence in the evening exhausted. 

The Druk Phuensum Tshogpa candidate for that constituency had to mobilize this supporter in the area, including Rinzin Dorji, to force people gather to listen his introductory speech.

Party workers are reportedly resorting to unethical and undemocratic means in swaying people's heart and manipulating them to support one particular party has been the regular scenes in districts at present. The communities are divided; the impact is seen even in families.

This has amply exemplified the relation between the ministers and the people. For long, the ministers and their followers had claimed they enjoy popular support from the general people. 

In Chapcha under Chukha dzongkhag there is major division in the community as workers from the two parties go around damaging each other's image. Similar incident occurred in Trashiyangtse district.

Galing in Trashigang is another good example of political division. The constituency has two contestants of the same family representing two parties: Wangdi Norbu and Tenzin Lekphel.

The DPT president Jigme Yeshe Thinley received a small band of 400 people welcoming him when he reached his ancestral land in Trashigang town.

Interestingly, some candidates also seemed to be frightened at the gathering of the people, or following them while in familiarization tour.
