Indian joint secretary calls HM King Khesar
Thimphu, October 10: The visiting joint secretary for North of India’s foreign ministry Preeti Sharan called on King Jigme Khesar at Tashicho Dzong on Tuesday.
She was on her visit to Bhutan to attend the first meeting of the Punatsangchu Hydroelectricity Project Authority, which hand handed over to Tala project authority for management.
Sharan’s visit has come just before the earlier plans of Indian Prime Minister Man Mohan Singh’s visit to Bhutan to oversee the preparation for first democratic elections, to be held under the guidance of the Indian government.
The officials of the Indian foreign ministry have increased their frequency of visits to Bhutan after the amendment of the 1949 bilateral treaty early this year which ended the direct involvement of India in Bhutan’s external affairs. Bhutan News Service
