Hindus celebrate Tihar

Phuentsholing, November 13: The five day Hindu festival of Tihar, also called the festival of light, was celebrated with various festivities across the country.

The festival ended on Sunday with males receiving Bai Tika from their sisters.

Various events were organized in Thimphu, Phuentsholing, Sarpang, Gelephu, Samdrup Jongkhar and other southern towns where majority of Lhotsams and Indian workers live.

People played deosuray and Bhailiram extending wishes to the family members for good health, happiness and prosperity.

Tihar marks the repatriation of King Rama of Ayodhya with his wife Sita and brother Lakshaman after a 14 year of exile.

Hindu festivals have come under fire from the royal regime since the adoption of the ‘one nation one people’ policy by King Jigme Singye. Bhutan News Service
