ECB says PDP candidate Garab Dorji is 'ngolop'
Thimphu, March 02: Election Commission of Bhutan has announced that People's Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for Gelephu candidacy in Sarpang district Garab Dorji has been disqualified to run the election.
The commission alleged him of working against the nationality by distributing copies of documents supporting ngolops to people.
The commission said regionalism, religion and ethnicity should not be the issues for political game. It added, Dorji tried to create sectarian and regional discord in the country for political gain.
Druk Phuensum Tshokpa had filed a complaint against Garab Dorji at the commission alleging him of engaging in the distribution of a public document titled “Bhutan: A Kingdom Besieged”.
Dorji had come heavily against the statement given by DPT president Jigme Y Thinley at the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, in 1993 when he was the home secretary. The document claims the demonstration in southern Bhutan for human rights and democracy in 1990 was anti-national activities.
Dorji had graduated from Sherubtshe College with a degree in English Honors in 1994 and had worked in tourism industry for 17 years. He is General Manager for Yangphel Adventure Travels, exclusive Agent for Geographic Expeditions. Bhutan News Service
