Nu 3.5b allowances to leaders (Economy)
Thimphu, June 26: The ruling party DPT has asked the National Assembly to approve a supplementary budget of Nu 3.5 billion that was spent in the last financial year for purchase of vehicles for the ministers, leader of opposition party, speaker, and the chairman of the National Council and transport allowance to MPs.
The supplementary is not permitted under the Public Finance Act 2007.
The minister justified the expenditure on the grounds that not all foreseeable activities and provisions were incorporated in the budget.
“The ministry would like to assure that from the financial year 2008-09 onward, the provisions of the Act shall be strictly complied with,” Finance Minister said while addressing the assembly. Bhutan News Service
