Dissolution clause opposed

The National Assembly has seen a majority of its members opposing the section in the local government bill (LG), which states that a local government will be removed if it loses the confidence of the people. Local governments include dzongkhag tshogdu, gewog tshogdu, and thromde tshogdu.

After two days of discussion on dissolution of LG, members expressed that the dissolution through voting by the people would leave room for influential people to influence votes. The provision on dissolution should be removed from the bill, said MPs. However, the Assembly will come to a conclusion on the issue on Monday.

The dissolution section states that a local government shall also be removed in case of lack of quorum, due to removal of two-third of its members and when there is gross error in proceedings of the local government.
