PM takes the middle path on pay hike (Nation)
Thimphu, October 21: To pacify the rising coldness between finance ministry and pay commission on raising the salary of the government officials, Prime Minister Jigmi Thinley assured at lest 50 percent salary hike for most.
Yet, he mentioned some 2,000 out of 20,000 government employees will have only 40 percent rise, what he says is ‘not a small’ amount’ of increment. PM assured debate at the parliament before the cabinet approves the recommendation.
PM termed these 2,000 employees as unnecessary and not of important to public service, but did not mention why such ‘not important’ posts were created to recruit people which incurs financial burden to the state.
While both the reports have recommended for bigger rise to top officials and lower rises at lower level, PM claimed it was a bottom-up approach. Bhutan News Service
