Indian president leaves Delhi for Thimphu

New Delhi, November 05: Indian President Pratibha Patil left New Delhi on a four-day visit to Thimphu as part of joining the celebrations of the coronation ceremony of King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk.

She will be the most distinguished guest of the celebrations. He was received by Fourth King Jigme Singye Wangchuk and Prime Minister Jigmi Thinley at Paro airport.

This is the second high level visit by Indian officials to Bhutan this year. The last high-level visit to Bhutan was made by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in May after Druk Phuensum Tshogpa (DPT) formed the new government after first elections.

External Affairs Minister of India Pranab Mukherjee and Congress (I) President Sonia Gandhi with her family are also invited as guests to the celebration along with representatives of over two dozen countries. Bhutan News Service
