Nepal government surprised over US proposal
Kathmandu, October 07: Nepalese foreign ministry has said the government is "surprised" over the recent remarks made by an American minister that the US is ready to take up to 60,000 exiled Bhutanese.
"The US has not discussed the issue with us. We do not understand how an American minister made such statement," news reports quoted foreign ministry spokesperson Yadav Khanal as saying.
Reaction came to recent remarks made by US Assistant Secretary of State for Refugee Affairs, Ellen Sauerbrey, during a conference of the UNHCR in Geneva where she had stated that the US was willing to resettle more than 60,000 exiled Bhutanese in the next 3-4 years. Bhutan News Service
