Published on Mar 14 2007 // Main News

Thimphu, March 15: A high level European Union delegation is scheduled to arrive here today to discuss bilateral issues and repatriation of exiled Bhutanese.

According to EU sources, the nine-member delegation will also raise the issue of human rights violation continuing in Bhutan for years, further deteriorating in the recent years, the resettlement process of the exiled Bhutanese and on other bilateral issues.

The delegation is being led by Neena Gill, a member of European Parliament, will discuss with Bhutanese government officials and ministers the refugee and other issues. They will come to Nepal on March 21, an EU official in Kathmandu said.

The delegation, according to a Bhutanese refugee leader, is also scheduled to visit the refugee camps in Nepal.

Bhutanese leader Ratan Gazmere, who is also associated with the Association of Human Rights Activists in Bhutan (AHURA), hoped that the EU delegation's visit to Bhutan will ensure that no further human rights violations take place in Bhutan. Bhutan News Service
