Queen gets NBCC award

Thimphu, September 29: Queen Ashi Sangay Choden Wangchuck received Excellence in Mental Awareness award from National Board for Certified Counselors and Affiliates (NBCC), a counseling organization in the USA, in recognition of her contribution to mental health care in Bhutan.

A statement issued by the organization says that the award was presented in acknowledgement of her dedication and innovation in recognizing and taking action to prevent mental health problems in the lives of women, girls and all the people of Bhutan and her involvement in Respect, Educate, Nurture and Empower Women (RENEW) projects.

While presenting the award at a ceremony in Thimphu, Dr Kraus from NBCC said, “Never have we seen a country whose leaders, policymakers, and mental health professionals understand and support counseling as a means of help for so many people.” Bhutan News Service
