Published on Mar 28 2008 // Main News

Thimphu, March 29: Newly elected parliament members of the opposition party People's Democratic party (PDP) have warned not to take oath in the parliament.

The party has accused that have been many unfair practices in the course of elections and demanded revision in the process.

The party won only two seats in the 47-member national assembly. The party alleged that civil servants from the capital had unfairly influenced the results after campaigning had closed.

PDP spokesperson Tashi Tshering told media, "We found that thousands of people descended on our villages, civil servants and people from the towns.  They went and did a lot of informal campaigning, which had a big influence on the results.”

He added this is completely against the law and those violators be brought to book.

The PDP members would resign from the positions to try and get the election commission to look into these matters.

But election commission said he process went free and fair. Bhutan News Service
