Gup embezzles development budget (Economy)

Zhemgang, January 16: People in Zhemganag have barred from continuing the construction of the Sonamthang irrigation channel, Panbang, saying their gup embezzled money while buying cement for the construction.
Construction of the irrigation channels, that benefit 63 households in the village, began in 2006 with assistance from the east-central region agriculture development project, Helvetas. The villagers are to contribute free labor for the construction.
The gup, Phurba Wangchuk, made fictitious bills and claimed about Nu 170,000 from the accounts section of the dzongkhag for a purchase order for 845 bags of cement. Bhutan News Service
