Electoral officers gather in Thimphu
Thimphu, March 24, 2009: The Election Commission has called all electoral, delineation and registration officials from across the country to Thimphu to brief the new electoral rules and guidelines endorsed by the first elected parliament of the country.
Marking the first year of country’s first parliamentary elections, the four-day gathering began in capital on Tuesday where the officials will review the election rules, guidelines and strategies and debate on delineation for local government elections scheduled for this year and prepare code of conduct for the elections.
Addressing the gathering of 60 people, Chief Election Commissioner Kunzang Wangdi said that the commission can proudly associate the day with the successful elections that was held on this day last year.
Additionally, the gathering will review the framework and jurisdiction for the Election Commission as an independent constitutional body beside restructuring and reorganizing election offices in all districts.
The commission in a statement said the meeting is also expected to finalize the proposal for delineation of the local government elections 2009.
