Kuensel website suspended

September 03: The Kuensel website has been suspended since last week. While the initial-days message read, the account has been suspended, now it is displayed that the site is undergoing regular system maintenance.

The management has not furnished justifiable reasons for the suspension of the site for this long. Since the site went off without prior notice, it was probably due to the failure of the management or technical staffs to keep things running.

Despite large number of newspapers and websites have come up in Bhutan, suspension of Kuensel has restricted many Bhutanese of their right to information. Most foreigners and Bhutanese living abroad rely on Kuensel as the authentic source of information.

The Kuensel had blocked the forum days before it went off.

“Whatever the reason, they must at least, inform the readers of the glitches through other social media. They have not even stated reasons for the dead page on their twitter page nor on their facebook page that they have ditched since March,” mentioned a blog in reaction to the Kuensel’s site suspension.
